01.08: Introducing HausLab!

Happy New Year! Get ready, because we’re going to have some fun in 2019.

One of the biggest struggles I’ve had in starting a YouTube channel has been where to start. I have tons of ideas for videos, and most of the things I want to try require the purchase of new chemicals and supplies. But I already have SO many chemicals! All of a sudden, a couple months ago, this idea hit me. I used my old inventory document and made a whole bunch of these tags to put in the hat. The plan is simple: draw one and make a video about that item!

Well, as I said, I made the tags before I started cleaning out the storage. There are a few mixed in that are already gone, but that’s okay. They’ll get weeded out as they’re picked. Otherwise, the rule is no returns or re-draws. If I pick a chemical, and it’s still available, it’s the topic of the next video. Originally, the intention was to not buy anything new, but I’m going to bend that rule a little bit. I can get consumable supplies, and I can get specialized equipment that can be used over and over again. So basically, no new chemicals.

Anyway, I’m really excited about this. My goal is to produce 5-6 videos a month. There isn’t a whole lot of viewership right now, obviously, but eventually I’d like to set a day or two a week where content is released. An “every Tuesday and Friday” thing, though I just randomly picked those two days. I’m getting better at cranking out the edits, but it still takes some time. Ideally, I’d like to film 2-3 videos at a time, then edit them ahead so I’m not rushing to finish. In other words, when I publish a video, there’s already another one nearly ready to go.

I’m also trying to work on increasing the quality of the content, not just the quality of the editing. This is a chemistry channel, after all, and I’ve been glossing over the chemistry a little bit. True, my focus has been on testing reagents and cleaning out garbage, but still.

So now is the time to subscribe to the channel! There’s going to be good things coming for sure! If you’re reading this and you’re not a subscriber on YouTube yet, click the icon in the upper right corner of the page and subscribe already!

The excitement is building!
